Wondering what tooth extraction is like? Here’s some quick answers so you can feel prepared for your dental work.

When Does a Tooth Require Extraction?

Over the years, we’ve had to perform tooth extractions for patients with mouth trauma, tooth decay from neglecting oral hygiene, gum disease, and overcrowding.

Some patients undergoing chemotherapy or organ transplantation may have to have teeth pulled if they pose a risk of infection.

If you are experiencing any of these issues, you can talk with your dentist to see if tooth extraction is the best care route for you.

What is the Tooth Extraction Procedure?

The tooth extraction procedure can be a subject of worry for many patients, but rest assured, you won’t feel anything while we are performing the procedure.

We will apply a local anesthetic to your tooth or place you under general anesthetic while we perform the procedure. Your dentist will remove the gum tissue and bone from around the tooth and carefully extract it with forceps.

A blood clot will form in the empty socket and the dentist will place a gauze pad on the wound that you will have to bite down on for a few hours after the surgery.

You may also receive self-dissolving stitches in the wound.

Healing From the Tooth Extraction Procedure

You will be able to go home when you wake up from the procedure. If you were placed under general anesthetic, you should have someone pick you up and drive you home, as you may be drowsy for a few hours after you wake.

For the first 24 hours after your tooth extraction, you should not rinse, spit, or drink from a straw.

This could break the blood clot and put you at risk for dry socket.

Eat soft foods, take any prescribed medications, and get lots of rest as your body heals from the extraction.

No insurance? No worries

We don’t let finances get in the way of dental health. We’ll work with you on a payment plan. We take most insurance healthcare plans too.

Unbelievable! My 18 year old daughter attends college in AZ while her family is in MN. She had to have her wisdom teeth pulled after becoming infected. Dr Khaydatov reassured me that he would get this taken care of. He showed care and concern for me as a parent being far away. I could not possibly give a higher recommendation to this incredible medical professional!

I been coming to 19th Ave Dental Care since I was 17years old. Dr Mark Butovich and Dr Yakov Khaydatov the most gentle Dentist I ever been to. I brought my 6 year old son to take the first tooth out and not even one tear dropped. I was very shocked how my kid didn’t feel anything and was smiling. Thank you very much Dr Yakov Khaydatov for such a great first time experience with my son.
